The natural beauty of the German countryside is being spoilt and unless something is done quickly to solve the various environmental issues, the land, streams and rivers will be polluted and the wildlife destroyed. Green Ash seeks to address the issues, one at a time, and provide workable solutions to counter the problem.
Green Ash is a 'Start-Up' looking for Environmentally aware Investors!
Help Protect the Environment
During a recent trip from Passau to Hamburg, a round trip of over 1600 Km, I visited numerous Autobahn Rest Areas, all of them badly polluted with Cigarette Butts, at a level of between 22 and 80+ cigarette butts per square meter. The higher levels being near to picnic tables and benches. Eating lunch in such a polluted environment is not a nice experience. It was obvious that this was not just that smokers are disrespectful of the environment; the responsible authorities had not provided any bins specifically for smokers waste.
See Photographs Below!
A typical waste cigarette butt contains carcinogens, nicotine, toxins and plasticised cellulose acetate fibre filters which do not readily biodegrade. Such waste contaminates the ground and leaches into the groundwater, causing harm to the environment and wildlife. Although smokers’ waste is actually ‘toxic waste’; the authorities do not provide bins for cigarette butts in public areas, perhaps due to the monetary cost of purchase and servicing. The evidence is that cigarette butts are left to be broken down by the sun; unfortunately they eventually break down with sunlight into micro-plastics, further polluting the ground. The toxins from just one waste cigarette butt will kill freshwater fish!
Green Ash has a Patent Pending on an innovative cartridge-style cigarette butt disposal bin system for outdoor use which uses fluid to compact the cigarette butts into a smaller space than with a conventional disposal bin. This green disposal bin is made of recycled materials and has an internal cartridge holding the waste. This allows for easy and hygienic disposal of the contents, which are preferably recycled. The benefits of this system are
A higher volume container than dry bins (approx 1600 cigarette ends):
No need to stub out cigarettes, the liquid extinguishes it. Prevents fire in the bin. Fluid separates contents to aid recycling. Fluid compacts waste providing space for more.
Ciagarette Butt pollution is not just a problem on German Autobahns; it is a real problem throughout Europe and not just on the Motorways. Public spaces, parks and Business share the same problem now that Smokers are required to go outside, often onto the street. For this reason, Green Ash envisages a Europe-wide solution to enable Smokers to become part of the Green Revolution.
At first glance, a great place to have lunch. Now look closely around the bench, smokers waste everywhere!
